Merry Christmas!

Hi everyone,

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND BEST WISHES FOR THE NEW YEAR

2013 has been pretty awful for us from the start (YKW). Even this weekend was bad, as both my lovely Son and Husband have been to A&E. My Son had major lung surgery twice (both lungs but in different operations) in 2010, when he suffered a spontaneous pneumothorax. He hasn't felt well for a while and worried that there was another problem. After tests, they decided that he's fine, just odd feelings that will happen because of what his lungs have suffered. Then yesterday morning my lovely husband went in with chest pains (he's only 38), but after tests they decided that it was muscular and although he's in a lot of pain and discomfort, it's pulled muscles not his heart...thank God!

2014 needs to be full of thriftiness, frugal changes, happiness and positive thinking. I will try hard...

I'm not looking forward to Christmas, but we will do our best as usual and create some lovely memories for Daisy. She's 15 months old so won't remember when she's older, but as you know she will have her scrapbooks which are documenting her life through photos and little snippets that I write.

Hopefully all will go well...

Sometimes I think we need to think of others and realise that for some people, Christmas is a sad and lonely time. We see Christmas on television with all the adverts as a wonderful happy time spent with the family and with plenty of everything. In reality, some people don't have a happy family or don't have enough, but they will cope and will get through it because they have no choice...

I have more than enough...I have plenty.

I hope our food will take us well into January.

My family situation isn't good, but I am lucky because I have some loving family members who love and care a lot about me...I am grateful for my family and feel fortunate.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and 2014 is kind to you.

I probably won't be back until January to wish you a Happy New Year and tell you about my plans for my blog. I'm looking forward to making changes in my daily life and can't wait to tell you about them.

Thank you for reading, thank you to Frugal Queen for sending readers my way, thank you for your kindness and comments and thank you for following me on my journey. It will continue in 2014...

Lots of love,

Mandy xxx

  1. Happy Christmas to you and I sincerely hope that 2014 is better for you and your family.
You deserve better times, sometimes horrible stuff happens to good people and I feel (certainly in my own situation) that it happens over and over again.
Hopefully we will all have a better 2014 and now that I feel less depressed than this time last year (after some ghastly hideous events) I pray for you and for me that the worst is over.
Looking forward to seeing the new changes you are making and hopefully I will be able to blog more as well.
    Much love

    1. Depression is an awful thing, I know, but with the love and care of people around you, things can get better. We too have had more than our fair share of 'ghastly hideous events' but we take each day at a time and try not to think of what may be coming our way next (easier said than done!) I too hope that the worst is over and 2014 will be kinder to us all.

I hope you have a happy and peaceful Christmas Susan,

  2. Hi Mandy
A Very Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I hope you have a happy and peaceful Christmas and Daisy will have a special day with her loving grandparents.
Looking forward to your frugal recipes and meal plans in the new year as we will all be wanting to spend as little money as possible and make our money go futher.
I will certainly be using up what I have as I need to save money towards the new log burner which is being fitted in January (and we will finally be warm in this freezing cold house).
Have a wonderful day and look forward to seeing you back in the New Year.
    take care, jane xxx

Happy Christmas to you and thank you for your support over the past few months, it is good to know that someone else has had a similar experience.

I will do my best on the money saving and share it here. I love a challenge!

    1. Thank you Sylvia.

He has quite a healthy lifestyle and his job is very manual, but stress has affected his body before - not long ago we thought he was losing his sight, but it was a strange reaction to stress caused by our daughter. His sight is fine now but we were told the problem could return with further stress. They checked his heart thoroughly and it's healthy. I think he works so hard for us that his body sometimes tells him to slow down. He's self-employed, but will be taking a good rest over Christmas, enjoying time spent with Daisy.

Happy Christmas to you too Sylvia,

  4. Hi Mandy & family,
I am wishing you a wonderful christmas and the best new year. I completely understand about the crappy year 2013 was certainly unlucky for myself and many people I know. Personally my family life has changed forever unrepairable damage was done by family members.Professionally many people suffer at this time of the year and the hospital certainly sees more suicide attempts. Yes christmas is not too happy for many people. So all we can do is concentrate on moving forward and doing the best we can do. I have no idea why family can be so hurtful and sometimes i can put too much energy into the worry the questioning and sometimes there is no answers. So I say onward and forward and I too am looking forward to positive changes in 2014. Blessings Mandy to you and your family, you do a wonderful job for your family. love Lors xx

Looks like we have a lot in common...my family consists of me, hubby, my son and his girlfriend, my eldest daughter, (you know about my youngest daughter) and the beautiful Daisy. We have a dog and so does Charlotte, we have 3 chickens and Charlotte has a tortoise and fish! That's it! I lost 2 parents, a grandmother, 2 sisters, 1 brother plus all my nieces and nephews, aunties, uncles, cousins and my hubby lost his family too when the same awful thing happened on his side of the family. There are some nasty people in our world and these two people that caused so much hurt are not young. One of them took away every decent memory I had of childhood and beyond. He was punished for what he did, but no where near enough. We live with it every day. The entire family believed him and so we lost the lot. Now I know they were not worth it, but sadly the family tree is a sore subject for us and one day Daisy will ask. She has no daddy and rarely a mummy, so we do the very best we can for her.

The way I look at it is that we can continue to wallow in self-pity or we can try to change things for the better. Nobody is going to do it for us, so we need a plan and some dedication and motivation to make those changes for a better life.

As for Christmas, tomorrow is one day and I've survived much worse, so I will concentrate on Daisy and look forward to Boxing Day when my son, his girlfriend and Charlotte are back with us.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, full of peace and joy,

      Mandy xxx
