A cheap and easy recipe...toad in-the-hole

Hi everyone,

A quick post as I am concentrating hard on decluttering. You would be proud of my ruthlessness!

A quick and easy tea...

Toad in-the-hole

2 cups plain flour
Pinch of salt
2 eggs
2 cups milk
Pack of sausages
Little oil or dripping

Chop the sausages up and put in a roasting tin with a little oil. Bake at 200oC while you mix up the batter.

To make the batter...put the flour and salt in a bowl and add the eggs. Mix, adding the milk slowly.

Beat well and pour over the sausages.

Bake for approx 45 mins at 180oC (keep an eye on it) until fluffed up and crispy golden.

We ate it with lots of veg and gravy...no need for potatoes too.

In December I will be talking all things Christmas...homemade decorations, festive food, tasty treats and gift ideas. I love Christmas and hope you'll join me!

January has a lot of changes and I plan to share these with you too...really knuckling down and focusing on what's important. Lots of upcycling, recycling, more sorting, decorating and making everywhere look pretty (on a very small budget).

I will be back before December if I cook something I think you'll like though!!

Thanks for reading

Mandy x

  1. Hi Mandy, gosh I haven't had toad in the hole for DECADES! I know! I somehow thought it was tricky to do (I'm a complete fool when it comes to batter and sauces). This looks so easy that even I could do it! I'm definitely going to give it a go. Well done on the decluttering. I've done a small bit and have been selling it off on ebay which is always good. Re. your last post, we've been shopping in Lidl more often and have found that our shopping bill is on average a good tenner less a week than when we shopped at Sainsbury/Tesco. xx

    1. Hi Loo
We haven't got lidl near us and prefer to online shop at the moment but well done for saving...shopping is getting so expensive!

I'm a bit of a yo-yo declutterer! I do well, then go to a Carboot sale! I making room for Christmas.

Have a go at toad in the hole...some people would leave the batter to rest and put it in the fridge, but I'm not that kind of cook and I just chuck it in!

Lovely to hear from you xx

  2. I gave up trying toad in the hole and yorkshire pud as they end up like cardboard.

  3. Love toad in the hole, and you're right Mandy, no need for potatoes as well. I sometimes whisk a spoonful of mustard in with the batter.

Well done on the decluttering. This week I've sorted out loads of books and took 4 carrier bags full to the charity shop. And I'm busy crocheting a blanket to use up all the odd balls of wool in my stash.

Nice to hear from you again.

    1. Hi Sooze
I used to use mustard in my cooking a lot, but Daisy has an allergic reaction to anything containing mustard! I bought her dairy free mayo once to go with her tuna and the reaction was instant. I love mustard but it doesn't love Daisy.

      The declutter continues today! Xx

  4. It is years since I made toad in the hole, definitely will be giving this a go again.
My decluttering has slowed while I plant out all my veggies to grow this year.
Keep up the good work with your decluttering!

  5. We have the same meal a few days ago and really enjoyed it. Mr B asked me to take him through the steps of making one so he can cook it when in Glen Coe with his climbing buddies next February. He did really well and only questioned my telling him to wait until the 'fat' in the tin was giving off blue smoke showing its at the right temp. He thought that was when it was ready to set on fire lol. He did really well and we enjoyed our meal.
I think most people seem to be on a de cluttering drive, I sorted my cross stitch fabric and sold a lot of it but still have a 45gallon tub full of hand dyed fabric to be listed. I'm still leaving myself enough fabric to stitch on. I gave 4 bags of quilting fabric remnants away to someone asking on free cycle to be used for a community project. I still have a lot to sort out 2 bags of clothes are ready for the charity shop and I'm ashamed to say some still have the labels attached. I have sorted my wool stash out though, given some away and sorted the rest into containers sitting happily under my bed thus stopping my blind Shiddie, Livvy, getting stuck under there lol.

    Enjoy your day
    Peg x😊
