Thank you xxx

Hi everyone!

Thank you so much for all the lovely comments - Loo, Jane, Taaleedee, Trsh (Trish?), Lors and Sara. I didn't expect that reaction! Just to clarify though - Daisy' mummy did live with us until Christmas, for the first four months of Daisy's life. She does visit us and we have taken Daisy to visit her. She has wanted Daisy to live with her for the past couple of months but has not had suitable living conditions for a baby. We said no and it caused a huge amount of upset. She gets the keys to her new house on Friday and Daisy will move in gradually (when she is happy to) when the house is ready for a baby. We will look after Daisy at the weekends even then. It's going to be hard letting go and I will worry about her constantly, but it has to happen at some point.

Thank you for your words of kindness and support, you have repeated what we expect will happen, but she needs to find that out for herself. We all know just how hard it is bringing up children and the sacrifices that need to be made. She's young and thinks she knows it all!

Sara - I hope you don't get too bored reading from the start! I will be back on track on Monday posting up my meals and recipes (I don't normally switch on my laptop over the weekend).

Thursday's tea was cheese salad and new potatoes. I used lettuce from my 'living' lettuce planted out in the garden.

Friday's tea was jacket potatoes, cheese and beans.

Tonight I had chicken kiev and a few wedges, hubby had an omelette and Daisy had pasta. It's so tempting to get a takeaway, but that certainly wouldn't fit in with the challenge! Tomorrow is a roast.

This morning Daisy, Charlotte and I went carbooting, as we do most Saturday mornings now. I will post what I got later. Charlotte has a you tube channel and does haul videos of what we get, so the stuff is in her room where she films videos and I'm sat in bed!

Thank you for reading,

Mandy x

  1. Hi Mandy, look foreward to reading your meal ideas and meal plans. I try to stick to a plan but it usually gets waylaid.
I too buy from Approved foods and have a spare bedroom full of plastic storage boxes full of batter, bread/bread roll, suet, assorted cake, assorted instant whip, assorted jelly crystals mixes, usually in 3.5kg bags, also a stockpile of tinned goods and noodles, couscous, rices etc.
My hubby and I both work for the same company, Next and so get paid the same day, this leads to a good couple of weeks then a couple of lets say "leaner" weeks.
I cook from scratch about 80% of the time but Daniel loves tinned meatballs, ravioli and spaghetti so sometimes they are a standby meal for him. Luckily he also likes mash, Yorkshire puds, certain veg and a small amount of meat (not a big meat eater though. I shop for 99% of my meat supplies at a meat van at our local carbooot sale, he has a good reputation and his meat is first class and he does very good value deals. The rest is done at a local market and supermarket shopping (kept to a minimum) is done in asda.
I am trying currently to use up some of the dried goods as OH is getting fed up of not being able to get into the spare bedroom.
I hope you get everything with Daisy sorted out with the minimum of upset to everyone and that things can be resolved with your daughter, like you say they do tend to think they know it all at that age.
    take care, jane x

  2. Hi Mandy, I picked up your blog from froogs too. I live across the pond in Canada and I have read everything from the beginning. First off Kudos to you and your hubby for being there for Alice and then continuing for Daisy. I have a good friend who found herself in similiar circumstance(albeit, slightly worse, her daughter is a recovering drug addict). So I am wondering about the british court system there- would it be frowned upon for you and your hubby to get legal guardianship of Daisy? This way you have the wherewithal to make all decisions but Alice can have "visitation". Keep on keepin on, one day at a time. Wondering this option for Jane too?(Ihave read all comments, not just blog posts).Legal guardianship also means any benefits available for minors would come to you (At least it does here in Ontario, Canada) but it is different everywhere. Have a great day
    Shelly
